It’s election night, and downtown Anchorage is vibrating with anticipation. The fate of Ballot Measure One and the opportunity to select the republican candidate for U.S. Senate make the primary particularly exciting this year. Decisions made today will determine the tone of the next couple months as well as the future of our state.

Emergence at Anchorage Community Works

Tonight was my first visit to Anchorage Community Works. I was a super fan back in May 2013 during the Kickstarter campaign, but somehow timing just never worked out for me to visit. But, tonight was “Emergence,” the first annual fundraiser and art auction. A friend invited us, so off we went for an art-filled evening of fun!

Love Note: Colorful Graffiti

I don’t always love graffiti – in fact, there are plenty of times that it just doesn’t belong.  But this lookout shack (if that’s what it is!) down by the Ship Creek boat launch sits all alone, and the graffiti side looks out at the ocean. I can see how it’s the perfect canvas.

Design Detail: Alleyway Tile

Tile

Sometimes when I walk downtown, I like to take the alleyways instead of the main streets. Often, this means I get to say hi to kitchen staff on their smoke breaks or skirt stinky dumpsters, but sometimes it means I get to see a special detail like this tile adorning the backside of the Muffin Man (a former tile shop).
