Saturday and Sunday marked the Anchorage Home Builders Association 2013 Spring Preview of Homes – Anchorage is filled with talented designers and builders, and it’s always fun to see their newest designs. This year, my friend Mary called and told me that she’d been touring the homes and found one in particular she thought I would enjoy – #9 on the map, by Glacier Homes at North Point Bluff.

Summer is coming! Please note – this is not to be read in an ominous Game of Thrones “winter is coming” kind of way; read it in the same tone of voice a six-year-old would use to say “Christmas is tomorrow!”
The big news last week (besides all the Fur Rondy fun) was the 727 landing at Merrill Field (usually used for smaller planes; the Anchorage Assembly granted special permission for this event). FedEx donated the Boeing 727 to the University of Alaska Anchorage for their maintenance program.
Yesterday was a great day: foggy in the morning, sunny in the afternoon and evening. Warm enough to not freeze when walking around, cold enough that it didn’t get sloppy. Perfect for the last day of Fur Rondy!

Running is SO much more fun than waiting… Today is the last day of the World Championship Dog Sled Races, don’t forget to go cheer for these furry, four-legged athletes!
In other news, Team USA won gold in a World Cup xc-skiing sprint race – nice work ladies!!!
Do you remember how a few months ago I was hoping to go on a hard hat tour of a cool new project? Well, today I got my chance! Covenant House opened the doors to their new home (obviously still under construction as shown in the above photo) for downtown-ers and I got to poke around and ooo and ahh* to my heart’s content!

Fun things to do on Valentine’s Day in Anchorage:
The Ski for Women is one of Anchorage’s most unique and popular events. It’s held every year on Super Bowl Sunday, is the nation’s largest women-only cross-country skiing event, and raises funds to help local organizations stop they cycle of domestic violence.
