Stories Around Town: WHS Represents in the News

I’ve written before about how much I love learning about the amazing things people I remember from high school are doing in our community.  This week, I thought I’d post an old HS photo to celebrate three fellow West High grads in the news – Miriam, Liza, and Becky, you are awesome!

A city sends love, but the Sengs still suffer by Julia O’Malley of the Anchorage Daily News. The horrible tragedy that the Sengs are experiencing makes my stomach turn and my heart ache for their family. But when bad things happen, good people step up to make a difference. I was so proud to read about Miriam Aarons efforts to help the family by organizing a fundraising event to help pay for funeral costs. It’s a very touching article, and an even more touching act of kindness.

Rhymes with fun by Ash Adams in the Anchorage Press about her dining experience at Pho Vietnam. In the article, Liza Tran says that Pho is the most authentic restaurant in town, and notes,  “Pho Vietnam tastes a lot like my parents’ cooking, and I’m always satisfied with the flavors.” I’ll definitely be checking it out, and recommend reading the article for more of Liza’s insights about Pho and Vietnamese food.

Tell tale heart by Ash Adams in the Anchorage Press. Another great article by Ash Adams (I love reading her pieces!) about “of love,” the show I liked yesterday – the awesome dancers in the show are part of the Momentum Collective, founded by Becky Kendall. Ash describes the show  as, “a visual discussion about love and relationships, and the show is a palimpsest of sorts—a layering of stories upon stories upon stories and an integration of various symbols and disciplines.” Also, I learned that term I was searching for in my “trifecta” blog yesterday was “gestural paintings.” Love it.

I love Anchorage. I love what it is, what it's been, and what I dream it will be. I share my adventures with DJ (my husband), my fabulous family and friends, two frenchies named Grover and Teddy, and now, all of you. If you love Anchorage too, get in touch - guest posts are welcome!

And love that you write and share this blog, Gretchen. It definitely makes me miss Alaska more and more but it also helps me so appreciate all that it is. Thank you!

    1. Thank you Nanda, and so nice to read your note this morning – I think Alaska misses you too 🙂 I love the photos of your adorable kiddos on FB, hopefully they’ll get to experience your home state someday!
