Friday night was the first Live.Work.Play I Love Anchorage event and, as the name suggests, was overflowing with love for our fair city. How could it not, when the event showcased all the photos posted to the I Love Anchorage Instagram account during the last 12 months?
Most Alaskans became acquainted with Cory Williams, also known as Dude Like Hella, a couple of weeks ago when his YouTube video of skipping a rock on frozen Edmonds lake, resulting in a crazy, unexpected sound, went viral.

Confession: I don’t really like watching most sports. I even have a limited attention span for the Olympics, but this year was different. This year, like many Alaskans, I was riveted by the U.S Women’s Ski Team and their history-making potential.
I have a new favorite read: Arctic Urbanophile, by Eric Van Oss. He describes his blog as “exploring the metropolitan offerings of Los Anchorage” and writes mostly about urban planning and local restaurants, with mountaintop adventures and cultural experiences thrown in for good measure.
I visited Mammoth Music for the first time this weekend with my dad. It was so cool – overflowing with guitars, ukuleles, harmonicas, kazoos, mini-maracas, and every kind of musical accessory you could need.

And Abbey Rae Jackson, along with all the other people who open up their hearts and dedicate themselves to volunteering in Anchorage’s animal shelters, is saving it.
It’s a fascinating experience to meet someone in person who you’ve been digital friends with for a while. Fascinating, a bit strange, and SO MUCH FUN.
I’m still reveling in winter (even though yesterday was the “first day of winter” we’ve had weeks of snow and chilly temps) and wasn’t missing summery things until I wandered into Bloomsbury Blooms, where color, flowers, greens, art, and the intoxicatingly fresh smell of growing things riot together in an abundance of perfection.
