People, places, things, and ideas I love in Anchorage, AK
I’ve been thinking about my Seattle trip a lot – it is just such an inspiring city and so much fun to visit friends for a couple of days and explore! I’ve always loved Pike Place Market, and thought that we could do an Anchorage version by having an indoor market that could expand into an outdoor market in the summer. On my most recent visit to Seattle, I actually wandered into an indoor market that was even better than all of my imagining: Melrose Market.
This is seriously amazing and achingly beautiful.
Tonight was Covenant House’s Candlelight Vigil for Homeless Youth. People gather outside the crisis center downtown to light the night for homeless youth.

I stumbled upon Women of the 112th one day, and have watched it ever since to see when Lisa Murkowski’s portrait would be painted.

“Wind storm took down the Anchorage Veteran’s Memorial flagpole. Best use of a crane that I’ve seen in a long time.”

I spotted this at Valley of the Moon Park today.
I don’t know if it was a nod to Veteran’s day or just a love note/good thought for the world in general. Regardless, it’s lovely. Such a quiet, non-permanent kind of graffiti, with a simple, sweet sentiment.

My “loving Anchorage” connection in this post is a little weak, except for loving the relatively close proximity of Seattle to Anchorage.
