Yesterday, the last day of 2016, I was rushing to get ready for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Quickly blow drying my newly short hair, I swiped on a sparkly eyeshadow and mentally debated the likelihood of running tights passing as evening wear.
I haven’t written a stories around town post for a while, but when I woke up this morning there were so many interesting things to share with you! Also, I’m loving the sunshine today but miss the cooler temps and gorgeous hoar-frost we enjoyed earlier this week, hence the photo above.
By now, I’d guess that all of Anchorage knows about the Alaska Dispatch purchase of the Anchorage Daily News. I think the sale is final today, and although I’m cautiously optimistic for the future (I’ve attended a couple presentations by Alice Rogoff, the new owner, and appreciate her vision for the future of press in Alaska – so far the only change seems to be duplicate content between the two online sites; it will be interesting to watch the evolution) I really hope some of my favorites from the ADN survive.
I picked this photo to complement the last story in this post, which profiles my #1 Anchorage restaurant, Kincaid Grill. If you haven’t ever dined there, I highly recommend treating yourself to a delectable meal!
Here are a few of my favorite stories for you this week; it’s all about food, fashion, and art in Anchorage this week. Oh, and skiing too!

This photo is from a couple of years ago, and despite the rain that accompanies autumn, I’m sure you can see why it’s my favorite season. I hope everyone had grand adventures this weekend/relished being a bum/was hyper-productive/or enjoyed time with friends (or all of these options combined!).
My ‘stories around town’ are late, but still great! Read on for some of my favorites during the last few weeks.
I’m incredibly thankful for digital news and typing – so easy to consume and to create. Can you imagine if everything were still handwritten? Sometimes I can’t even decipher my own scrawls. The photo above is actually “good” handwriting for me… Have you ever tried to analyze your handwriting? Apparently, I have an artistic nature, can interpret emotions but hold them back, and am friendly, warm, and like to engage in conversation. Hmmmm.
More great (easy to read!) stories for you this week.
I found a lot of great stories to share with you this week. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy! (Thanks Dark Horse for the Star Wars inspired coffee art).
It’s all about the numbers this week, with a bit of art, history, cooking, music, and skiing thrown in for good measure! Read on to find out why…
Last week was a bit slow on the news front, at least in terms of stories that I found interesting and relevant to Anchorage, but this week I found all sorts of fun things to read!
So many great stories this week! Grab a cup of coffee (latte art above by Middleway Cafe’s talented baristas) and settle in for some fun reading. Then go play in the sun!
