Love Note: Visitor Season

train

There’s something so invigorating about meeting people who have just arrived in Anchorage, excited to explore. For some reason I’ve been asked for directions a lot this summer (I look like I know where I’m going? I exude localness? People are desperate? ), and I love pointing people towards fun places to dine and visit, learning about their plans for their trip, and discovering what they think about Alaska. Everyone I’ve talked to so far this summer seemed happy to be in town (or maybe just that they aren’t lost anymore ) and I was thrilled to share a bit of my love for Anchorage with them.

If you laughed when you read the above it’s because you know I have little to no sense of direction, but I’m fairly confident I didn’t lead anyone too far astray…

I love Anchorage. I love what it is, what it's been, and what I dream it will be. I share my adventures with DJ (my husband), my fabulous family and friends, two frenchies named Grover and Teddy, and now, all of you. If you love Anchorage too, get in touch - guest posts are welcome!

  1. Great post especially since I was one of those recent visitors you pointed in the right direction and I can’t thank you enough. I did my day exactly as you planned out for me starting with a run around the Park Strip – perfect way to start the day! Drove down to Gridwood and the tram ride provided a great view – we were so fortunate to have the beautiful sunny weather that day. Also went down to the animal conservation center – busy spot and you can spend as little or as much time as you want there. We had dinner that night at Simon & Seafort – everything was perfect – view, service and food – great place to spend our last night in Anchorage. The night before we ate at Sacks which was also very good.

Thanks so much Gretchen for putting together the itinerary for us – can’t wait to return to your city and trying anything else you might recommend.

    1. Colleen, I’m so glad you enjoyed your Friday adventure! Although you were never actually lost, it was really fun to help plan a bit of your trip. I hope that you are able to return soon, and thank you for not only being open to suggestions, but also for letting me know how everything went. And, thanks for all the great insight you and Dale shared with us!
