Detail: Secret Downtown Door

Secret Downtown Door

Have you ever noticed this door before? It’s set back from the sidewalk, nestled between the Glacier Brewhouse and Orso. It’s hard to see in this picture, but it says “Not the Imaginarium” just under the window panes.

I love that it feels like a secret, that it has so much character but is so easy to rush passed – it seems to reveal itself only if you are walking slowly, allowing yourself to experience all the sights and sounds of downtown.

A few years ago, the door led to an ad agency (Lottsfeldt Strategies) which was decorated with brightly painted walls, fun furniture, and a cool coffee machine. It seemed like the right kind of place for the door to lead.

Do you know of any other secret doors in town?

I love Anchorage. I love what it is, what it's been, and what I dream it will be. I share my adventures with DJ (my husband), my fabulous family and friends, two frenchies named Grover and Teddy, and now, all of you. If you love Anchorage too, get in touch - guest posts are welcome!

  1. That once was an apartment called the Orange Door. It was a kind of infamous Anchorage hangout. I think when remodeled for the Glacier Brewhouse people pushed to keep that door for nostalgia. Glad folks still enjoy it.
