This evening, we attended a ceremony at the Alaska Fallen Firefighter Memorial outside of Fire Station 1 on 5th and A Street.
It was a powerful way to feel connected to our community and the rest of the country as we paused to remember and send thanks to all emergency responders who have sacrificed their lives for others. We also honored those who still serve, and will serve in the future. If any of you happen to read this, thank you.
For me, the most impactful part of the memorial was when the names of Alaska’s 30 fallen firefighters were read accompanied by ringing a bell. You can find the list of names here.

We ended the night sharing a wonderful meal with family and old/new friends. I can’t think of a better way to honor those who have passed than to cherish the moments you have with the people you love the most.
