Talking Art

art

I recently spent a couple of days with some of the makers and shapers of Alaska’s arts. It was invigorating to meet such a diverse and thoughtful group of people. As someone who wholeheartedly appreciates the arts, I loved the experience.

Our group included a musician, a playwright, a radio personality, a writer, a visual artist, a theater professional, and local arts leaders.

We talked about a village that hadn’t danced for 100 years dancing again.

We talked about new and interesting artistic partnerships happening across Alaska.

We talked about how art should make you question things you hadn’t thought to question before.

We talked about the close-knit communities of Alaska’s smaller cities and villages celebrating the arts, and how in Anchorage, sometimes it’s hard to connect (but worth it when you do!).

We talked about leadership in the arts.

We talked about measuring the impact of the arts on communities.

We talked and talked, and ate, and talked, and then talked and ate some more.

It was great fun, and hopefully leads to great things for arts in Alaska. Our arts are in good hands!

I love Anchorage. I love what it is, what it's been, and what I dream it will be. I share my adventures with DJ (my husband), my fabulous family and friends, two frenchies named Grover and Teddy, and now, all of you. If you love Anchorage too, get in touch - guest posts are welcome!
