Sled Dogs and a Ferris Wheel in Downtown Anchorage

Ferris Wheel

Yesterday was a great day: foggy in the morning, sunny in the afternoon and evening. Warm enough to not freeze when walking around, cold enough that it didn’t get sloppy. Perfect for the last day of Fur Rondy!

We watched the ceremonial start of the Iditarod (we’re cheering for #13, John Baker! The first Inupiat to win the race) from a few different vantage points (unfortunately, we missed the super fun reception thrown by super fun people – note to self: if a party is from 9 – noon, don’t show up at 1:00), cruised through the crafts show (my dad purchased quite the fancy new hat on Friday, and I almost found one to match!), and warmed up with some coffee from the Muse.

Later in the day, we wandered around with some friends who ran with the reindeer (I missed it…again.  Next year!), rode the ferris wheel (how cool would it be to have watched the fireworks from the ferris wheel?  As it was, we had a great view of the city and could see the snow sculptures down by Ship Creek), and DJ won me a giant blue monkey that we brought home for Grover to savage.

All in all, it was a pretty great day in downtown Anchorage, and the perfect way to end Rondy 2013.

I love Anchorage. I love what it is, what it's been, and what I dream it will be. I share my adventures with DJ (my husband), my fabulous family and friends, two frenchies named Grover and Teddy, and now, all of you. If you love Anchorage too, get in touch - guest posts are welcome!
