Airborne with Alaska Airlines

When I was little, I thought that every state had their own airlines, and the people who lived in each state got to fly on it. Makes sense, right? Florida Airlines, Montana Airlines, Vermont Airlines…

Later on, when I figured out that Alaska is the only state with an airline named for it, I felt like it was just another reason that our state is special. When I fly somewhere, I always fly Alaska if I can. I love their history with our state (check out this cool book: “Alaska Airlines.” It’s filled with groovy old photos) and the new Club 49 is a nice bonus for AK residents.

I’ve had a lot of experiences flying Alaska, most of them good, a few of them mediocre, nothing ever terrible. But my recent flight to Seattle was perfect! I wrote before about our long weekend visiting friends and cheering on the Vikings, and of course, our tickets were with Alaska Airlines.

My husband and I got lucky and ended up with good seats. The flight attendants were incredibly nice and my husband watched Batman Rises for the second time and showed me all the good parts. I spent most of the flight basking in the sun and reading. To top it off, there was barely any turbulence and my in-flight nerves were almost nonexistent.

It’s fun to imagine air travel back in the day… cloth napkins, real glassware, fancy flight attendant outfits. It just seems so glamorous. I should have worn a cocktail dress and movie star sunglasses to fit with my retro-glam fantasy instead of sweats (but unfortunately the siren song of cozy, comfy sweats is hard to ignore…)

Here’s hoping that I don’t end up sitting by the restrooms for my next flight. At least I’ll still be flying Alaska!
